Urgent Update
By submitting your domain information, MDaemon will receive an email if an urgent update is made to the antivirus definitions. This feature is available at no extra charge, and when MDaemon receives the coded message, it automatically triggers the updating mechanism.

Rich Text Scanning
Users running Microsoft Outlook, using the Rich Text Format (RTF) email, will be protected. Alt-N MDaemon AntiVirus will scan inside the TNEF (Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format) attachments then clean or remove any infected attachments or message, per the settings in the Alt-N MDaemon AntiVirus controls.

Antivirus Updates
Remove the worry and hassle of downloading updates to Alt-N MDaemon AntiVirus. Simply set up the Updater Scheduler and Alt-N MDaemon AntiVirus will download all the necessary updates to the virus definitions. Once options have been set up, there will be no need to perform daily administration to keep your system updated. You will not have to compromise any firewall security setup with Alt-N MDaemon AntiVirus’ Updater; all downloads can take place either via standard FTP, PASV FTP, or HTTP. This will allow updating of any system with almost any form of Internet access.

Log Files

EICAR Test
You can verify how Alt-N MDaemon AntiVirus will respond to a virus and verify its status by using the built-in option to send an EICAR test message. This test sends a message that contains the European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research (EICAR) ‘virus’, which Alt-N MDaemon AntiVirus will respond to and initiate it’s normal virus response actions. Note, the EICAR’s test file is not an actual virus; it is merely an attachment that all antivirus programs should respond to as if it was a virus.

Background Scanning
An additional external scanner can be used to scan certain file attachments (.exe, .doc, .com, etc.) in the background, freeing Alt-N MDaemon Antivirus’ workload. Alt-N MDaemon Antivirus’ will remain in control of scanning most major archive files, scripts, applets, and other file types.
