Block an IP Address from Connecting to Your
Site
Introduction
Preventing a specific server or user from connecting to your email server can often stop a source of spam
or other harassment. You can prevent connections by screening out IP addresses. Screening can apply to
all IP addresses or individual IPs associated with the email domains on your server. By default MDaemon
accepts all incoming IPs.
Requirements
You need the IP addresses you want to block.
How To
To block an IP address:
- Use the ...IP screening ... command from the Setup >Security settings cascading menu.
This displays the Security Settings dialog.
- Select the IP Screening tab. The Current IP screen entries list shows the IP addresses
associated with the email domains on your server. These IPs are adjacent to hammer icons.
(You set up the domains and their IPs by using the Primary Domain and Secondary Domains
commands from the Setup menu.) You can set up screening for all local IPs or for individual
local IPs.
- Select All IPs or one of the individual IPs from the list. The IP you have selected also shows
up in the Local IP drop down list box, which is another way to select a local IP.
- Enter in the Remote IP text box the IP address you want to screen. You enter just one IP
or you can use wild cards. Examples include:
192.*.*.* for IPs beginning with 192.
192.168.1.* for IPs beginning with 192.168.1
192.168.1.106 for just that one IP address.
- Select the This remote IP cannot connect radio button. This prevents the IP from connecting.
- Use the Add command button to block the IP.
- Use the Apply command button to make the change permanent or use the OK command
button the make the change and exit from the dialog.
