Gateway for Forwarding to an Account
Introduction
Forwarding to an account usually all mail for the domain should be forwarded to a pre-existing POP
account at another location.
Requirements
For a forwarding to an account, you need to know the:
- mail address of the host receiving the forwarded mail.
- email address to use in the forwarded SMTP envelope.
- forwarding port to use when transferring mail to the host. This can be something other than
the default and industry standard port 25 for SMTP. But the receiving host also needs to
be set to use the same port. This can be useful for security purposes to confuse port sniffers
looking to steal data from email.
How To
The instructions begin with the MDaemon administration application running.
- Use the New Gateway... command from the Gateways menu. This displays a dialog with a
lot of tabs for different types of configuration data. Domains settings is the default tab.
- Enter the domain name in the Domain name text box. For example, a gateway for the domain
yourserver.com would be named yourserver.com.
- Use the default folder name created when you entered the domain name. This automatically
gets created in the text box named Place message files for all users of the domain here. This
helps keep track of the messages for the domain, especially for machines hosting multiple
gateways.
- Click on the Mail Forwarding tab.
- Activate the Forward to this address check box.
- Enter the email address into the adjacent text box.
- Enter an address to use in the ...SMTP envelope.
- Enter the ...TCP port to use for forwarding the mail. The account must use this port when
connecting to collect mail.
- Use the OK command button to save the settings, create the gateway and exit from the
dialog.
- You can repeat this procedure for multiple email accounts.
